I will buy the eos 5d if this camera will play directly the pictures taken in high definition on my canon realis sx50 projector or on my 45 inches lcd tv. Either a dvi, hdmi or component output will be fine. Sony, nikon and some other cameras have upgraded to these and it's overwhelmingly satisfying to watch HD in a big screen. My sony HD mini dv camcorder and T100 have component video output and why can't canon do this. Nikon D3 and D300 have both HDMI output while canon D40 and the MK3Ds have a sloppy Sd output.

Yeah, I agree that there's a lot of cameras that are comparable or better in the entry-level categories. Pretty much any of my friends who've bought an SLR in the last month have opted for the Nikon D40 despite my rabid Canon prattle.

... or is that because of my rabid canon prattle? Hm.

Anyways, on specs and image quality I just don't see another manufacturer competing with the high end Canon bodies. Some of the Nikons approach it, but the lack of a full-frame sensor just seems stubborn and kind of backwards. I'm not sure what to make it.

I'm hoping for the successor :)

I agree, I think the real strength of canon is the 5d and the 1d. In the entry-level and "prosumer" categories there are arguably better offerings (personally I am a huge fan of the Pentax k10d). Not to say that the 20/30/40d are bad cameras - I've shot with the 20d and it is excellent. But I'd definitely hold out for the 5d (or it's successor)
